How It Started

The Day With Sergio
There I stand, on day number four,
Waiting for him to go out the door.
They are under control, or so I’ve been told.
Being alone, he is under control.
Something happened, I’ll never know what.
The young man stands and turns,
Hitting me in the chest, too firm.
The force, the power, it comes very quick,
I don’t have the time to think; I feel sick
Only “to protect”, goes on in my brain;
I feel the blood from my face drain.
I scream and no one is around!
I hurt, but there is no help to be found.
I go to the door, Sergio looking fierce at me.
There is no control; where can it be?
I casually ask for help, “I’ve been hit.”
Never before have I been punched like it;
This man/child has scared me out of my wits.
I was told he was under control; the words don’t fit.
The beginning of a long year, I fear.
Never before have my thoughts been so unclear;
They told me I’d be safe, and I’m not!
A whole year together is what we’ve got.
They’re under control, is what I was told.

There are not problems with others so bold;
The victim becomes the problem, you see.
There is no problem; it’s only me.
